TN’S WOMEN’S SENIOR AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP:
SCOTT SEALS HER 7TH WIN AT THE SENIOR
30th Tennessee Women’s Senior Amateur Championship

As the final scorecard was turned in, so was yet another victory for Maggie Scott, of Charleston. Taking the championship title for an astounding SEVENTH time, Scott finished today’s competition with a 74, putting her at 226 (74-78-74) for her total score. The sterling Connie Day trophy was presented to Scott again this year as the deserving winner of this 30th year long championship.
Her son Neil Scott was there to cheer her on throughout the competition as her caddy and her #1 fan. Mother and son shared a winning moment as Scott finished the 18th hole on par.
Debbie Durham, of Signal Mountain, took the second place in the championship flight, completing today’s competition with a 76. Just three strokes behind taking the top of the championship flight, the first two days Durham had a 78 and 75, putting her at an overall 229.
Ranking at the top of the first flight was Marianne Fischer, of Bristol, with a three day score of 252 (89-80-83). Runner-up in this flight was Jenifer Beres, of Franklin, ending today’s play with an 81 and 252 (88-84-81) overall.
Winning the first place spot in the second flight was Kenlyn Stewart, of Knoxville, who came back from a 93 this first day to win with an overall 257. Mary Kelly of Mt. Juliet, took the runner-up seat in the second flight shooting a 92 today, for a total score of 266 (91-83-92).
First honors in the third flight went to Deborah Lambert of Signal Mountain. Lambert finished Round 3 with an 88 , letting her total of 275 (97-90-88) take the cake. Shooting a 278 (96-87-95), Buchanan landed the title of runner-up within the third flight.
Finishing up with a 289 (102-89-98), Joanne Walker of Gallatin, won the fourth flight of the competition. Walker shot a 89 on day 2, and was in perfect position to finish at the top of her flight. Janis Bean, of Winchester, took the runner-up honors with a 299 (104-90-105.
Adding something new to the Women’s Senior Amateur was the Super Senior Division who made its debut in this year’s competition. Diane Whitson of Unicoi, won this year’s first award given in honor of Mrs. Jean St. Charles. Whitson won this category with an overall score of263 (89-87-87).
Today’s competition closed with a luncheon and awards banquet where dazzling sterling and crystal prizes were given to the champion through sixth place finalist of each flight. This year’s Women’s Senior Amateur Championship at the Links at Kahite was truly a tremendous success. The lush and gorgeous course at Kahite provided the perfect setting for the 30th year of this time-honored championship. The competitive play, countless volunteers, hard work by all, and laughs made this competition one to remember.
