JOHNSON WINS AT TPGA PROFESSIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2008 Tennessee Professional Championship concluded today at Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, TN. Forty-five Tennessee PGA Professionals battled through two rounds for just three spots in the Professional National Championship to be held at Twin Warriors Golf Club and Santa Ana Golf Club in Santa Ana Pueblo, NM next June.
The second round was an exciting one, especially with the addition of a live scoring feature for the leaders. Audie Johnson, head PGA Professional at Lebanon Golf & Country Club, began the day one stroke out of the lead at 2-under-par. In the end, his consistency paid off and he took the title by one stroke over Buddy Harston. Johnson finished the two days at 4-under-par after consecutive rounds of 70. Harston carded the round of the tournament on Tuesday with a 5-under-par 67 to take second place alone. First round leader Henrik Simonsen and Richard Rebne played off for the third and final qualifying spot with Rebne prevailing after a great birdie on the fourth playoff hole. Congratulations to Audie Johnson PGA, Buddy Harston PGA, and Richard Rebne PGA, for qualifying for the 2009 Professional National Championship. Three alternate spots were also decided; they went to Henrik Simonsen, Kelvin Burgin, and Scott Masters.
