KIP HENLEY WINS THE TENNESSEE PGA SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP
(Lookout Mountain) The Tennessee PGA Section Championship was held at Lookout Mountain Golf Club today. The golf was hard on some of the trickiest greens in the state but the views were spectacular. The event was originally scheduled to be 54 holes but due to Hurricane Katrina it was cut to 36 holes in one day. Kip Henley (Crossville) held a three shot lead after posting the only under par score in the first round. Hunt Gilliland (Chattanooga) shot even par after the first round and a handful of players were at +1 over par, 71.
The players immediately started their second round after their first round was complete. After it was all said and done, Kip Henley finished the tournament at –8 under par after shooting a 65 in the afternoon round. Loren Personett (Antioch) brought home second place by shooting a 66 in the afternoon round to finish at –2 under par for the event. Third place went to host professional Aaron Feyes (Lookout Mountain) who shot +1 over for the tournament but it included seven birdies on the day. James Paschal (Hendersonville) brought home fourth place at +2 over par. James started a fund to aid Hurricane Katrina victims from the participating PGA professionals today.
The professionals are donating a percentage of their earnings to the American Red Cross. Participants were: Professionals Loren Personett, Aaron Feyes, James Paschal, Hunt Gilliland, Chris Dibble, Todd Jenkins, Keith Burdette, Dale Thorley, Patrick Christovich, Walt Chapman, Greg Wyatt, Eric Rebmann, Steve Munson, Bryon Williams, Mark Houser, Hank Patton, David Crafton, Joey Hickman, Richard Spraker and Callaway Golf representative Doug Schoerke. The donations totaled over $2,400.
Hole in One’s are rare to come by, but two players aced hole #6 in the first round.
Lookout Mountain Golf Club played at 6,600 yards par 70 for the championship.
The TPGA Section Championship is one of the premier events of the year for TPGA Professionals, alongside the TGA’s Tennessee State Open Championship and the TPGA Club Professional Championship. The 2005 TPGA Section Champion earned an exemption into the 2006 FedEx St. Jude Classic conducted at the TPC at Southwind in Memphis on the PGA Tour.

Follow the signs to Rock City (Rt. 58 Ochs Highway) to the top of the Mountain. Continue until the road dead ends into a Methodist Church. Turn left on Lula Lake Road, and the golf course will be approximately 1/4 mile on your left.
