ROB HESSING WINS THE TENNESSEE PGA SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP
(Kingston Springs, TN) Unlike the first two days of the tournament, the weather was gloomy, much like the players faces when they turned in their scorecards. One player, Rob Hessing (Selmer) had a smile on his face as he finished in the second to last group finishing the tournament at +4 over par. He knew Eric Rebmann was tied with him in the following group, but Eric (Knoxville) had to take an unplayable on Hole 18, giving Hessing the title of 2004 Tennessee PGA Champion. The course played tough all week with greens rolling as much as a 12’10” during the week. The Golf Club of Tennessee played at 6,800 yards par 71 and the course was the winner this week as only 4 rounds were posted under par.
Rob Hessing was the most consistent player this week as he shot a 72, 73, 72. Michel Alary (Pleasant View), a teammate of Rob’s at Austin Peay a few years back was also consistent in second place, posting a 72, 72, 74. Eric Rebmann was one shot back of Alary to take home third place. Kip Henley (Crossville) was a shot back of Eric and 3 shots behind the leader to capture fourth place. Walt Chapman (Knoxville) posted a +1 over par 72, after starting the day +5 over par after the first 4 holes. He tied for fifth place with Mike Bennett (Ooltewah). In seventh place was last years champion, Loren Personett (Antioch), Ross Heinemann (Chattanooga) & Aaron Feyes (Lookout Mountain) who finished the tournament at +9 over par. Rounding out the top 10 were Audie Johnson (Lebanon) and Joey Hickman (Old Hickory) at +10 over par.
The TPGA Section Championship is one of the premier events of the year for TPGA Professionals, alongside the TGA’s Tennessee State Open Championship and the TPGA Club Professional Championship. The 2004 TPGA Section Champion earned a berth into the PGA Southern Regional Championship, which will be contested October 14-17 in Georgia and an exemption into the 2005 FedEx St. Jude Classic conducted at the TPC at Southwind in Memphis on the PGA Tour.
