Tennessee Section of the PGA of America

(Nashville, TN)  Bob Boyle, PGA Professional at Crockett’s Ridge G.C. in Kingsport, TN successfully defended his title at this year’s Tennessee PGA Championship.  Boyle carded a final round score of 71 (-1 under par) as he finished at seven under par for the tournament.  Boyle joins fellow professionals Kip Henley, Art Whaley, Gibby Gilbert, and Bert Weaver as back-to-back Champions.  In sole second place was Zeb Patten (Chattanooga) who shot a two under par round of 70 today to finish a 211, five under par.  Kevlin Burgin (Old Hickory) and Kip Henley (Crossville) finished at 216 tied for third position.

The 6,800-yard par 72 Belle Meade Country Club was a true test for the 77 PGA Golf Professionals who came from across the state to compete in this level I event for the True Temper TPGA Player of the Year award. 

The TPGA Section Championship is one of the premier events of the year for TPGA Professionals, alongside the TGA’s Tennessee State Open Championship and the TPGA Club Professional Championship.  The 2002 TPGA Section Champion will earn a berth into the PGA Northern Regional Championship, which will be contested September 26-29 at the Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, OH, and an exemption into the 2003 FedEx St. Jude Classic conducted at the TPC at Southwind in Memphis on the PGA Tour.
